We are looking for a MS SQL DBA to join our team at our office in Birmingham, AL.  Role is largely responsible for providing operational database services to the organization. Some of the primary responsibilities of this role would include owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests, fulfilling requests, database security, resolving incidents within SLAs, reviewing service related reports, responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with engineering to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems.


This MS SQL Server DBA role requires a service oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with the SLAs, establishing and maintaining communication with customers to keep them updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems within ITIL stands as well as proactive troubleshooting.


  • Experience in database administration in SQL server (2008 R2 – 2014).
  • Manage SQL server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability and security.
  • Experience with complicated database organizational structures, triggers, and stored procedures.
  • Independently analyze, solve and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues and document changes.
  • Experience documenting new and existing processes as well as updating existing.
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support activities after hours.


  • Bachelor’s degree with a technical major or experience work equivalent.
  • Has 5+ years of experience in database administration and support.
  • Experience with performance tuning and optimization (PTO) using native monitoring and 3rd party troubleshooting tools.
  • Knowledge of high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) options.
  • Experience working with Windows servers.
  • Ability to multi-task and context switch effectively between different activities.
  • Proven ability to act as a self-starter, multi-task and work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written correspondence) in a professional and courteous manner with technical and non-technical personnel.
